> Cherry Shuler opened Cherry's Cheesecakes & Delights' brick-and-mortar location at 111 N Harrison Ave in 2023 after three years in business, bringing her extraordinary menu of over 160 different cheesecake flavors to Old Town Lafayette. What sets Cherry's apart is Shuler's unique background pairing cheesecakes with wines and craft beers in Virginia and Napa Valley, which inspired her extensive flavor repertoire. Her passion for cheesecakes began during her freshman year at Florida State University when she discovered making homemade versions was more economical than store-bought options. Beyond her signature cheesecakes, the bakery offers vegan and gluten-free options ('Because I have allergies, I love my vegan and gluten-free people'), plus Southern-inspired treats including kolaches, cinnamon rolls made from a family recipe, pies, and barbecued meats prepared in-house every other Saturday. The Front Range's only dedicated cheesecake bakery has become a beloved community gathering spot in Lafayette.

Haven't posted in a while, but am starting to focus back in on spending a little time researching. We're getting ready to kick into high gear with our bakery efforts next month, so I'm back to sharing so of my research here. For this post, we came across Manresa Bread
Fresh-milled flour is at the heart of what we do. It's easy to open up a bag of flour, but we believe the nuanced flavor, balanced sweetness, and greater nutrition makes the extra step worth it.
Remembering Andy Clark, Founder of Moxie Bread Co.

"Father. Baker. Organizer. Musician. Entrepreneur. Friend. Andy Clark wore many hats over the course of his time in Boulder County, a place he was so proud to call home... More than any of his individual achievements, Andy's legacy is the people who loved him. He drew us together, reminding us that we are truly stronger, better and brighter when we all bring our individual talents to the table. His is a hearth fire that will never be snuffed out—one that we, his community, will stoke by continuing to gather in the way that Andy taught us."
Lafayette art gallery hosts holiday art fair, offers free classes for those affected by Marshal Fire
via Colorado Hometown Weekly
Posted December 4, 2022 5:00 am
pARTiculars Art Gallery and Teaching Studio, located at 401 South Public Road in Lafayette, held its second annual holiday art fair through December 11, 2022. The 14-year-old cooperative gallery showcased paintings, jewelry, pottery, and fiber arts from local artists. The gallery operates with six owner-artists and ten members who staff the gallery, teach classes, and sell their work on commission. Co-owner Peter Steele noted that the space is an artist owned, cooperative gallery. In response to the Marshall Fire disaster, pARTiculars offered free art classes to affected community members. Steele explained the rationale: art can be therapeutic and healing. Member artist Laurie Adams added that creating art can help maintain memories, even when something is no longer there. Classes emphasized hands-on learning, with Adams teaching watercolor techniques to beginners.

The Artisan Grain Collaborative is another organization that has had a lot of success in their efforts to shore up the local grain economy out in the midwest. We love to see their continued to success.
Artisan Grain Collaborative, a network of farmers, millers, maltsters, brewers, bakers and distillers, is fostering a resilient and equitable regional breadbasket.
We've got our own evolving grain collaborative out here in Colorado in the form of the Colorado Grain Chain that we actively engage with in order to foster the growing of more local and regional grain to use in our products.

Ardent Mills survey finds major consumer interest in ancient grains

Interesting survey that is showing a large agricultural player intersecting with local-based efforts to revive regional grain chains. I am more than happy to see a larger player move away from a focus on the usual commodity grains, but Ardent Mills' interest and involvement will hopefully not dissuade smaller scale efforts to build up local community oriented supplies of ancient, heirloom, heritage and landrace grains.
Most consumers in an Ardent Mills’ survey expressed interest in buying an item containing ancient grains, and nearly 90% said they wanted to know more about ancient grains. Denver-based Ardent Mills contacted 1,001 US consumers of the ages 18 or older online Aug. 19-23.

Doing some more homework on Colorado's San Luis Valley water issues and came across this informative video on some of the history and issues with our water out here.
The value of water holds many definitions throughout Colorado’s urban and rural communities. As the supply and demand gap continues to widen, cities look to farms and ranches for its water, how do you determine factors of fairness, equity and wealth in a way that is acceptable to all? FARM TO FAUCET is an honest look at our society’s willingness to adapt in this ever-changing climate space.
