Submitting plans for the city's review this week

It's been a while since we've shared any news on the progress of designing and building out our storefront at 707 South Public Road in downtown Lafayette, so we thought it would make a nice end-of-year update.

The biggest news is that we'll be submitting the required engineer plans we've been developing with our design team since July to the city this week. The current plan is for us to have a space for our bakery on the part of the property facing South Public Road, with two small offices on the side facing the alley. The majority of bakery space will be for our commercial kitchen with a small sales area at the front of the store. As it stands right now, we'll have fairly limited indoor seating to start.

We do know that the city's review process will take several months, with the primary goal being to ensure that our project aligns with zoning and building codes, as well as the design criteria for the area. It is possible that things will change during the review process, but what we are sharing is currently what we are envisioning.

The inspiration for the building, including the fact that it is white, comes from my New England roots. This design is our modern take on the old colonial style storefront. We came across an example that we liked when we were on vacation in Maine with family a few years back at a place called O'Reilly's Cure. If you can imagine the building below without a second floor, that is what we are going for with the building's design.
