Daily Grains Weekly Update

By Ashley Overstreet
Good morning! I mentioned a few weeks ago that we'd discuss some of our partnerships, so let's cover that today. These are all small businesses that we've chosen to work with, whether they're based in Lafayette, they're small like us, etc. The one thing that unites all of these people is that like us, they're every bit as dedicated to our community and to providing you with the most nourishing and flavorful foods possible. Without further adieu and in alphabetical order (I was an English major, after all)...

Cure Organic Farm: Many of you may know us from setting up at the farm stand over the past few years. Anne helped us get our footing and promote Daily Grains, and her produce and eggs fuel us during the long market season. We'll be there again this year, and we appreciate those of you keep buying from us (and Anne) there or have followed us here for offseason pickups.

Flower Street Farm: We started sourcing the honey for all of our baked goods from Bryan and Jen down in Lakewood this year. I wish I could open the five-gallon bucket for each of you to enjoy the aroma and flavor of their honey directly. Words simply don't do it justice. You can find their products at the Lafayette Farmers Market in May.

Jones Farms Organics: This is our longest partnership. We've worked with Michael and Sarah almost from the start. They've gone out of their way to get us heritage wheats (White Sonora, Rouge de Bordeaux, etc), and we're currently using their rye. While they're primarily known for their potatoes (you may be familiar with their logo in local stores), they plant grains as part of their crop rotation.

Jorbin Acres: This is our newest partnership. We're offering a Bread Share CSA with Ellen and Ryan's CSA Share, which is still open until May 1st if you'd like to join. Ellen and Ryan are Lafayette residents and will be returning to the Lafayette Farmers Market, which is where their CSA pickups take place. Established in 2024, Jorbin Acres is a biodiverse micro-farming operation connecting the community with nutrient-dense, sustainably grown produce and flowers.

Switch Gears Farm: We got to know Brett and Vanita from setting up next to them at the Lafayette Farmers Market last year. They too will be back this season (hopefully next to us again). You cannot beat their produce, which also fuels us through market season. Switch Gears Farm is a small-scale farm located in Longmont, CO and they primarily focus on high-quality produce and soil health.

Wiley Farm & Co.: We've gotten some of the herbs for our breads from Rachel over the past few years (sometimes at the last minute when, say, the rosemary we're growing in our garden isn't quite enough for that week's orders), and I'm a big fan of her teas. She too will be joining the Lafayette Farmers Market again this season, but you can scope out her products online now.

Things may be a little different this year with the drought and water shortages, so it’s more important than ever to support your local farmers and other businesses that may be open year round but earn a good portion of their living during market season. It gets said so much that it’s cliche, but it’s still true: those markets don’t exist without customers.

Thanks for taking the time to read through here! Have a great week!
